Pineapple Everything! Hotel Five – A Staypineapple Hotel Seattle Review

IMG_3460

If you’re looking for a themed hotel that trades beige walls for rooms with bright yellow pineapples and ‘Do Not Disturb’ door hangers with attitude, you’ve found it. Nestled in the heart of Seattle’s Belltown is Hotel Five, A Staypineapple Hotel. This is definitely not your typical hotel with its high energy and everything and anything related to pineapples. The beds were some of the most comfortable I’ve slept on and everything about my experience made my Seattle trip very iconic. Here’s what to expect if you decide to stay in one of Seattle’s most colorful boutique hotels.

Full disclosure: On this travel guide I will reference separate websites I used for my trip through different travel agencies. I have not been paid or sponsored to post this content. The content below is purely based off my experience during my time there and using the services.

Why Hotel Five – StayPineapple Hotel

Proximity to Attractions: One of the main reasons I decided to book this hotel was because of its proximity to every tourist attraction we were going to be doing. If you look at a map of Seattle you’ll notice that three of the main attractions Pike Place Market, Space Needle, and the Seattle Waterfront form a triangle and the hotel is actually just right outside the triangle.

Airport to Hotel: Ease of getting there from the Seattle’s SEATAC airport was also a big consideration. We rented a car from the airport for our trip but if we were to take public transportation it would only be $3.00 and a 47 minute train ride on the GREEN LINE to Westlake Station and a 9 minute walk to the hotel.

Parking: Another consideration was parking. I was told by my friends that lived in Seattle that finding a hotel with gated parking is a must if you’re renting a car to prevent car/window break-ins. The hotel was one of the few that had gated parking access so our rental car felt safe to park there at all times.

First Impressions: Pineapple Everything!

The hotel is actually on the way of the Seattle Monorail to Space Needle and Chihuly Gardens. Located in Belltown, the hotel really stands out with its neon lit signs and night and its vibrant red and yellow color palette. This is actually my first time staying at a themed hotel so I was not expecting it to be so vibrant. It’s a completely different hotel vibe from every other hotel I’ve stayed at so far. This is one of the few hotels that allows pets. I saw so many dogs vacationing with their owners in the hotel lobby.

Luggage Drop-Off

Usually when I plan trips I try to maximize time. I arrive early on the day I’m supposed to check in to the hotel and leave my luggage there to have an entire full day of exploring. I usually check in later at night when I either run out of things to do or there’s down time. This time I arrived at the hotel at around 11am since our flight from SNA John Wayne Airport departed at 9am. I entered the hotel and immediately told them I am checking in later but I wanted to leave my luggage here. The staff at the front desk were really helpful and immediately tagged our luggage and put it in the back room. The staff were very courteous and nice so that was a big plus and a great start to our Seattle travel experience.

The Hotel Lobby / Check-In

I spent the entire morning/mid-afternoon at the Space Needle and Chihuly Gardens. I walked back to the hotel from the Space Needle which only took like 10 minutes. Given how friendly the staff was with regards to dropping off our luggage the check in experience should not disappoint. The hotel lobby is what I consider one of the bigger lobbies. You could easily meet other travelers waiting in the lobby. Unfortunately when we were there the bar wasn’t operating but maybe in the future that might be cool since it is a really big area. The staff were really helpful and they explained what room we booked for our stay, the amenities we were entitled to, and what fees were going to be holds and charged. They were very transparent about everything which was really nice. I was checked in within five minutes which was a plus after a long morning traveling and sightseeing.

Pineapple Hotel Perks / Amenities

Nowadays hotels charge amenity fees. It seems you can’t escape them. If you’re paying so much per night for a “amenity” fee it better be worth it. Other hotels give you only bottled water. Staypineapple is quite different. The perks weren’t just add on fees to the hotel, they really added to the personality of the hotel itself!

Pineapple Cookies

At around 4pm the lobby has freshly baked pineapple cookies! When we checked into our hotel the lobby staff handed us a bunch of cookies and I was able to grab more than one.

Complimentary Beverage

Since we had three people in our hotel room we were given three coasters that acted as complimentary drink vouchers. There’s fridge in the lobby that you can use to redeem for a free drink. The drinks ranged from anything pineapple canned seltzers, pineapple drinks, and sodas! You can take your pick. It was certainly a nice gesture.

Hot Coffee / Water Bar

Hot Coffee was always made available in the lobby at all hours of the day. You could literally sit in the lobby and enjoy your cup of coffee.

They had a water bar where you can refill your water bottles for free. The water bar even had options to make it cold and sparkling water. Sparkling water is usually never given at hotels I’ve stayed at in the past. This was right next to the coffee in the lobby.

Free Arcade Games / Shuffleboard

Located throughout the entire lobby there’s multiple old school retro arcade game machines and a big shuffleboard you can use to play with friends or other hotel guests.

Bikes & Umbrellas

The amenity fee covers daily bike rental. This makes it super easy to ride all over downtown Seattle and explore. It also comes with a bike lock. Unfortunately during our time that we were there it was pouring and raining so we didn’t get a chance to rent these from the lobby. But it’s nice to know these were available!

Even the bikes had their logo and pineapple themes on it which was really refreshing to see.

The pineapple themed umbrellas were located at the front of the hotel lobby near the door and it is available for you to use as part of the covered amenity fee. Super convenient especially if you forgot to pack one during your trip. They’re also really big and nice umbrellas too.

The Hotel Room: 5th Avenue Suite

The hotel suite was previously named Urban Suite. We stayed in a suite type of room since we had three people in our group. Two people took the bed and one person took the sofa which converts into a sofa bed which was a nice touch. There were plenty of outlets everywhere

Living Room

The moment you walk in you’re greeted with the view of this living room / sofa, a coffee table, and a flat screen TV mounted on the wall. The room was really clean and it was pretty spotless.

The room also came with a mini fridge which was nice since we went out earlier to get boba and water

There’s an actual small hallway and it leads into the master bedroom

They have probably some of the best “do not disturb” signs I’ve seen!

Master Bedroom

Sheets and a plush dog on the mattress teaches you how to fold sheets. Two small lounge chairs near the corner window is a nice touch along with a small coffee table.

The other side of the room

You can actually see the Seattle monorail that passes by the hotel from our window. The nice part is that the train is pretty quiet so we weren’t really disturbed by it passing through

There’s even an option to take the stuffed animal home for around $25, which they would just bill it to your hotel bill when you check out.

They somehow even got the power plug and usb charging areas to be pineapple themed as well!

The room comes with a Keurig machine loaded with a ton of different coffee cups and cream/sugar. Alongside two extra additional bottled water and a ice machine bucket. All available at no extra charge!

Restroom / Bathroom

The restroom / bathroom is a walk in shower. I will admit it was a little bit weird that there wasn’t a door. But I’ve been seeing this at many modern hotels. For the suite they also provide two pineapple themed bathrobes that you can use and wear.

I find it hilarious that even the extra toilet paper roll is pineapple decorated themes as well. They even got the top part right!

The Naked Experience

Part of the StayPineapple Naked Experience is the fact that from check in to check out they want to make sure you feel like you’re at home. Their beds are amongst the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept on. Touted as everything that’s in the room is so clean that you can sleep naked. The sheets are cloud like European duvets and the bed itself is a Simmon’s Beautyrest mattress.

The cool part is that if you liked any part of the bedding, sheets, etc you are actually able to purchase them and take them home. For example the duvet sheets can be had for a couple grand.

Below is a short video of the room tour!

The Costs

Let’s get down to the cost because that may impact whether or not you want to stay here. This hotel is basically a mid-tier boutique. Rates will fluctuate depending on the season and what days you choose. You can expect anywhere from $130 to maybe $400/night peak summer for the suite room that I stayed in. It’s not fairly cheap but I can totally see why this place is worth it.

If you’re on a tighter budget, their Urban or Metro rooms are smaller in size but offer the same service and perks at a lower price point which may entice people to try the hotel for the first time.

What I liked about the hotel

While there were other hotels a bit further away, I still think the value proposition of this hotel alone is worth the price

  • Efficiency: We definitely paid more to be in Belltown but we ultimately saved so much money by not calling Ubers or driving everywhere because we could literally just walk to all our tourist destinations
  • Modern: I’m used to staying at very bland hotels with inconsistent service but staying at this hotel completely changed the way I looked at boutique hotels. A lot of the things in the hotel room were up to date and not old which I really enjoyed
  • Security: Secured building and a secure underground car parking lot made it worth the cost

Things to Watch Out For

  • Amenity Fee: Staypineapple’s amenity fee is actually lower than most places I’ve been to. At around $25/night I think the amenity fee is justified given how much value you get in return in service. Normally the fees aren’t added in to the original hotel booking so they may be charged after you check in.
  • Parking Fee: Parking in Belltown area is pretty pricey. But the hotel offers an underground parking lot that is secured based on first come first serve basis at $42/night. You also get access to In/Out privileges so that makes it worth the price.

Final Thoughts

Hotel Five: A Staypineapple Hotel is a great middle ground between a budget and luxury stay. It’s location is what sets it apart from most of the other Seattle hotels on the list. You’re minutes away from being able to walk to the waterfront, the marketplace, and the space needle. The hotel itself is very modernized and the service was fantastic which is what you should expect when you’re in Seattle. Don’t forget the amenity and parking fees that are associated with this hotel during your stay and you’ll be fine. In fact, maybe go and borrow the bike and ride it down to the waterfront and explore more than I did!
